Abstract

Neurological disorders are almost universally attributed to malfunction or loss of nerve cells. Numerous pathophysiological factors, such as acute injury to the central nervous system, neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation, can cause these conditions. Due to its favorable therapeutic effects, few side effects, and potential for use as adjuvant therapies, natural drugs are attracting a lot of attention from healthcare professionals. Agathisflavone is a natural biflavonoid obtained from plants of different families such as Anacardiaceae, Araucariaceae, Ochnaceae, and Fabaceae. It was reported to exhibit neuroprotective activities in different in vitro and in vivo models. The present book chapter was designed to summarize the in vitro, in vivo, and toxicological studies of agathisflavone, focusing on the mechanism of action. Besides, we presented different botanical sources of agathisflavone. Hopefully, this book chapter will provide references in the design of new drug candidate discovery for treatment of neurological diseases.
