Abstract
This paper deals with the geographical analysis of the significance of geographical names provinces of Northern Upper Beni Suef, Fayoum and Minya. The study area includes nearly 750 urban locality rural and urban belong to different historical eras.
Geographical significance of the names of the villages of the study area was classified into five main groups: indication morphology, water indication, vital significance, climatic significance, cultural significance, and other names have no significance.
It is the geographical distribution of the names of villages, according to the geographical sectors, it turns out the meaning of the names of villages, including relatively consistent with the geographical and environmental data sectors of the study area agree. The research came to the rule of the cultural significance of the names of the villages of the study area, and have had center stage compared to other connotations. This is due to the historical and cultural importance of the study area that came upon historical eras successive left their mark on the names of the villages in the region.
The study recommends the importance and significance of the study of geographical names and in particular to increase local orientation and Arab to hold conferences geographical names, as well as the Arab interest in geographical names and encoded to save the Arab identity, as well as recognizing the importance of the Arabic language and the semantics meanings.
