Abstract

Two field experiments were established during 1992/ 1993 and 1993/1994 seasons in sandy soil at El- Bosaily farm, Bihara governorate. Potato var. Cara was grown to study the effect of cattle and chicken manure with or without mineral fertilizers on vegetative growth, chemical composition and yield of the potato tubers. Five treatments were applied, i.e. cattle manure, chicken manure, cattle manure plus chicken manure, Cattle manure plus mineral and Chicken manure plus mineral fertilizer. The N%, P%, K%, starch and yield were measured. Applying cattle manure combined with chicken manure increased vegetative growth expressed as plant height and leaves and stem fresh weight. Starch and N%, P% and K% percentage increased in the leaves and tubers by adding cattle manure combined with chicken manure. Highest total yield was obtained by using cattle manure combined with chicken manure. Whereas, the lowest total yield was obtained when using cattle manure alone.
