Abstract
A strain of tomato mosaic virus (TMV), isolated from tomato plants and identified by the authors, was used to study its effect on both susceptibility and morphological characters of eight tomato hybrids under glasshouse conditions. Among the tomato hybrids evaluated, different reactions to TMV infection were observed; H389 was susceptible and hybrids Dokki2 and Ain Shams2 were resistant. Plants of Carmello, Dokki 1, Ain Shams 1, Wady and 577 were moderately tolerant. Flowering, fruit yield and fruit characters were evaluated and the results showed significant differences among hybrid plants of both the indeterminate group (Carmello, H389, Dokki 1 and Ain Shamsl) as well as hybrids in the determinate group (Wady, Dokki2, Ain Shams2 and 577).
