Abstract

There are 15 papers, chiefly on the genetics, biochemistry, nodulation, taxonomy and techniques for characterisation of actinorhizal symbioses. These include studies of: infection events in the establishment of Casuarina-Frankia symbioses; variability of longevity and isotopic nitrogen value of alder leaves; genetic diversity of Eleagnaceae-infective Frankia strains; Frankia abundance in soils beneath Betula nigra and other woody plants (abstracted separately); introduction of hairy roots by Agrobacterium rhizogenes; effects of exposure to acetylene on nitrogen transport and Alnus glutinosa growth; selection of salt-tolerant Casuarina glauca and Frankia; effect of inoculation with Frankia on the growth of Alnus in the field; genetic diversity among Alnus glutinosa populations; aerial nodulation in Casuarina spp.; and nodulation and nitrogen fixation in Casuarina-Frankia combinations. The issue concludes with a further 13 short notes on similar themes. -J.W.Cooper
