Abstract
Anatomy of the male and female genitalia is crucial for classifying beetles. In the current work, optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to study the male and female genitalia of Neocleonus maculipes [Curculionidae: Lixinae: Cleonini] for the first time from Egypt. A thorough explanation of the genitalia, and diagnosis of both the genus and species is provided. In addition, an illustrated key to differentiate between the genus Neocleonus and the closely related genus Ammocleonus is included.
