Abstract


This review provides details about psychosocial and behavioral problems in children and adolescents with diabetes in terms of magnitude of the problem, clinical presentation, risk factors, and effect on diabetes outcomes. In addition, the chapter addresses the psychosocial effects of diabetes diagnosis on patients, family members, and peers. It provides as well recommendations for health-care professionals/providers to screen, support, and manage adequately psychosocial and behavioral disorders in young patients with diabetes and their families. Finally, a briefing on different psychosocial interventions and strategies for improved outcomes will be included.
