Effects of abiotic stress on the performance of horticultural crops

Abstract

Currently, global food security is under threat by accelerated climate change and the variety of abiotic stresses it brings, which are just as destructive to agricultural and horticultural crops as diseases and insect pests, if not more so. Many horticultural crops lose quality or have a considerable loss in output due to abiotic factors such as salinity stress, drought stress, low and high temperatures, and heavy metals. The danger here is that horticulture crops constitute a large source of food, and they support many important and vital enterprises. As a result, in this chapter, the harm produced by abiotic stresses to horticultural crops is carefully investigated.
