Studies ON ENDOGENOUS LEVELS OF ETHYLENE AND AUXIN IN VICIA FABA DURING GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

El-Beltagy, Adel S.; HALL, M. A.;

Abstract

Endogenous levels of ethylene, auxins and inhibitors have been followed during the course of development in two varieties of Vicia faba having markedly different growth habits. Increases in internal ethylene levels correlate well with the time of abscission of flowers or pods. No clear correlations were observable between any particular developmental process and endogenous levels of auxin or inhibitors, although there was some correlation between inhibitor levels and abscission. The role in the control of development of the three types of growth regulator studied is discussed. Copyright © 1975, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
