AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF SOME FACTORS AFFECTING ON THE EXPENDITURE OF FOOD IN EGYPT

Abstract


This research aimed at studying some factors affecting consumption of major food groups in urban and rural of Egypt.
The results indicated positive relation between per capita income and the expenditure on these groups in urban and rural areas. Income expenditure elasticties estimated were less than one for all food groups in urban and rural Egypt.
The study also showed that there was an increasing trend for meat and chicken, fish and milk and its products, and eggs expenditure as educational level improve in both urban and rural areas. The study also indicated on increase in per capita expenditure for cereals and its products, legumes, meat and chicken, oils and fats in both urban and rural. There was also an increase relationship between the number of family members and per capita expenditure.
Finally the study results pointed that per capita expenditure for the different food groups has increased in the border governorate.
