Abstract


The current study was conducted at the experimental station in Wye College, London University during the period from January to September 1991 in glasshouse under completely controlled condition. The work is done in order to study the water consumption from sweet pepper plant (Capsicum annuum) under two methods of cultivation into hydroponic system (N.F.T) and rockwool system irrigated by drip irrigation.
The results showed that the plants grown under N.F.T. system gave higher yield than those grown in rockwool. There is a statistical relationship between water consumption and both yield and leaf area index. In addition, there was a correlation between radiation and water losses from the two methods. The water consumption for sweet pepper can be considered as actual irrigation in N.F.T system.
