Abstract
ABSTRACT
Aim of the Work: To compare the outcome between roux en y gastric bypass (RYGB) and
mini gastric bypass (MGB) within 1 year follow up after operation.
Patients and Methods: 200 patients with morbid obesity were randomized to receive either
LRYGBP (n -100) or LMGBP (n -100). Patients were enrolled in prospective study and had
gathered outcome analysis at the department of surgery Ain-Shams University Hospitals from
May 2016 to May 2018
Results: The mean age was 39.43 ± 10.33 and 40.46 ± 12.4 years for RYGB and MGB,
respectively. The mean length of hospital stay in both groups was forty eight hours. 9% of
MGB patients and 11% of RYGB developed complications (P = 0.03). There was no mortality
in any of the groups. The baseline weight of patients who underwent RYGB was 127.7 ± 32.19
and 125.08 ± 46 kg for MGB patients. %EWL: at 6 months, 59.6% RYGB and 56.1% OAGB,
and at 12 months, 85.9 and 89.4% (P > 0.05), respectively. At baseline, the BMI for RYGB
was 45.29 ± 8.82 and 44.8 ± 12.06 kg/m2 for MGB/OAGB; at 6-month follow-up, 33 and
33.7 kg/m2; and at 12 months, 29 ± 4.5 and 27.7 ± 7.85 kg/m2, respectively. Regarding early
complications, in RYGB 8 patents developed complications including bleeding, leakage,
intestinal obstruction, and intra-abdominal abscesses. The MGB/OAGB group reported 11
patients developed complications, one of them needed intraoperative intervention.
Conclusion: Both RYGB and MGB/OAGB achieve similar weight loss mean at 1 year
