Study of the effect of natural factors on one of the oil paintings executed on wooden stand
Eman Nabil;
Abstract
Heat, humidity and light are among the natural factors that have a destructive
effect on oil paintings, especially those executed on a wooden stand. The
change in the rates of temperature and humidity leads to a change in the rates
of expansion and contraction in the wooden carrier of the oil paintings. This
results in warping, warping, vaulting, curvature and separation between the
wooden beams that make up the wooden carrier and what gets wet on it. This
is from falling and losing color layers on the surface of the painting, in
addition to the direct effect of damage factors on the photography floors. The
painting, which is the subject of the study, is one of the personal belongings.
Executed on a wooden stand, it bears some insignia, symbols, and color
indications that help in the dating process, such as the crescent, the three stars,
the green and brown colors, and the royal crown that adorns it. The research
is concerned with the history of the painting through the theme of the painting
and examining the deterioration aspects and identifying the compounds of the
imaging floor using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and identifying the bonding
material of the preparation floor by infrared analysis (FTIR). In addition to
identifying the color medium by gas chromatograph analysis. The research
also deals with the stages of painting treatment, starting from the stages of
mechanical and chemical cleaning, fixing, injection and strengthening, all the
way to applying a layer of varnish to protect the surface of the painting.
