Abstract
It is quite obvious that being negatively stereotyped particularly as terrorists in the aftermath of 9/11 has become an unavoidable reality for Arabs. In reaction to the victimization and humiliation Arab-Americans are repeatedly exposed to, they employ the power of language to defend themselves. Through their poetry, contemporary Arab-American poets attempt to speak out against false stereotypes against Arabs and Arab-Americans expressing their dilemma impartially. Thus, Arab-American poetry is employed as a cultural channel of communication between Arabs and Muslims on the one hand and Americans on the other. Through this channel Arab-Americans expose their own point of view in an attempt to help Americans think outside the box and see Arabs and Arab-Americans through unbiased lenses.
