The Effect of Type of Universal Adhesives with Different pH values on the Bond Strength of Dual-cure Core Material to Dentin: An In vitro-study
Aziz, Menna; Rizk, Khaled;
Abstract
Aim: This study aims to evaluate the effect of using universal adhesives with different pH values on the micro-shear bond strength (mSBS) of dual-cure resin-core material to dentin.
Materials and methods: 20 bovine dentin specimens were equally assigned to 4 groups according to the universal adhesive used: Tokuyama universal bond (TUB), One coat 7 universal (OCU), One coat 7 universal + One coat 7.0 Activator (OCU+DCA) and All-bond universal (ABU). Bonding procedure was performed according to manufacturers’ instruction. polyethylene tubes were placed on the dentin specimens into which the resin core material was injected and then light cured. Specimens were subjected to mSBS testing after 24-hours of water storage. Representative samples were subjected to nano-leakage (NL) evaluation.
Results: OCU and OCU+DCA showed significant higher bond strength values than that of TUB and ABU. No statistically significant differences were recorded between OCU and OCU+DCA nor TUB and AUB.
Conclusion: Adhesive pH value and chemical composition had a significant effect on micro-shear bond strength.
