Assessment of bullying behavior among preparatory school students

Abstract

School bullying is a global problem confronting the international community that has existed in public and private schools for years with a negative impact on the psychosocial wellbeing of victims that have limited social skills ability. Aim: The study aimed to assess bullying behavior among preparatory school students. Research design: Descriptive design used to conduct this study. Setting: This study conducted in Al-Shaheed Al-Gamasy Preparatory school at Sobk Al Ahad, Ashmoun Menoufia Governorate affiliated to the Egyptian Ministry of Education. Subjects: This study included eighty-three students who selected by proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data collection tool: (1) Interviewing questionnaire regarding students' socio-demographic characteristics, (2) Anti-bullying strategies, (3) Bully Attitude Scale (BAS), and (4) Multidimensional Peer Victimization Scale (MPVS). Results: Most of the students using positive handling bullying and cognitive approach, positive bully attitude , and most of them were highly exposure to all peer victimization types. Conclusion: There was a positive statistical correlation between the total score of bullying strategies, total score of bully attitude scale, and total score of students' multidimensional peer victimization. Recommendations: Provide ongoing professional development for teachers and schools personnel on bullying identification, prevention, and intervention strategies, emphasizing the psychological aspects of bullying and the importance of creating a supportive learning environment.
