Biography
Dr Sami El Shimi is the Professor of Pediatrics and Chair of Pediatric Department and Physician-in-Chief of NICU units in Children’s & Obstetrics Hospitals at Ain Shams University in Cairo-Egypt. He was formerly acting as the Executive Director of the Children Hospital (320 beds – tertiary level) from 2006-2010. He was graduated in 1976 from Ain Shams University where he completed his training in all sub-specialties of Pediatrics especially intensive care and neonatology and his postgraduate studies (Ms, MD, PhD) and served as a resident, lecturer, assistant professor then professor of pediatrics and neonatology since 1996. Dr El Shimi has been a Senior Editor of fundamentals of Pediatrics textbook and author and co-author of many articles and publications in addition to supervision of more than 100 Master and M.D. Theses in Neonatology and Pediatrics. He is a member of many national & international societies as National Perinatal Association, Florida, USA, program of "Continuing Medical Education", Ohio State University, USA, Egyptian Society for Neonatal & Preterm Care, Egyptian Pediatric Association, Ain Shams Pediatric Association, Egyptian Allergy and Immunology Association and Saudi Pediatric Association. He has been elected as a member of the board of the Egyptian Fellowship of Neonatology and Pediatrics and the Program of Maternal & Child Health of the Egyptian Ministry of Health. He is a chief participant in the Egyptian Neonatal Network for training pediatrician in conjunction with European Commission (Tempus) & European partners in Spain, Germany and England. Dr El Shimi has been a visitor consultant of Pediatrics and Neonatology in many countries like KSA, Libya, Spain and England and he has a special experience in quality, infection control and hospital management. He received several awards and honors from different national and international societies for his contributions and researches in the fields of pediatrics and neonatology.
