Nurses' Perception Regarding Pain Management at Emergency Room Children

Abstract


The aim of the study: This study aimed to assess nurses' perception regarding pain management among children at Emergency room. Research design: A descriptive design was utilized in carrying out this study. Setting: This study was conducted in pediatric emergency room at Children hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Subjects: The subjects of this study composed of fourty nurses participated in a survey on knowledge about and attitudes to pain management in children, and they were interviewed about their experiences from caring for children in pain. Results: the results showed that the majority of the studied nurses have unsatisfactory total perception about pain. Conclusion: This study concluded that the majority of the studied nurses have unsatisfactory total perception about pain. The study also concluded that the majority of the studied sample were agree about using of non-pharmacological pain management methods to manage pain in children such as distraction aggravates of child's ability to tolerate his pain. Recommendations: the study recommended that Periodical in-service training programs for nurses working in Emergency room about child pain management should be conducted to improve their knowledge and practice in this area. Guidelines for child pain management should be followed.
