Biography
Mina Samaan Farag is a pomologist with research background in tree-fruit physiology, biotic/abiotic stresses, propagation, and plant tissue culture techniques. His research activities are related to investigate the influence of rootstock in changing scion trees growth behavior as well as the identification of potential mechanisms underlying signal transmission between rootstock and scion, particularly in response to stressful environmental conditions. As a part of his experience, Samaan's M.Sc. and Ph.D. work involved studying the role of plant tissue culture in solving mango and grape micropropagation problems. He focuses on assessing the problems of tissue culture (i.e. browning, recalcitrance and hyperhydricity) associated with micropropagation of hard-to-root fruit crops as mango (Samaan et al. 2007). He has demonstrated the contribution of micrografting in increasing the percentage of forming successful graft union among different grape cultivars and rootstocks (Samaan et al. 2012).
