Biography
Professor Mahmoud Maklad is a professor of pomology at the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University.
He is an expert in the field of pomology. Dr Maklad began his academic career at Ain Shams University, where he obtained his PhD in fruit tree breeding in 2012. He conducts research in various aspects of pomology and all related sciences, such as molecular genetics, organic horticulture, post-harvest processing techniques, nanotechnology used in the manufacture of micronutrient fertilisers, the effects of climate fluctuations on fruit physiology, and the prevalence of pests and pathogens affecting both fruit trees and fruits. He was the coordinator of the Innovation and Patent Development Unit, the link between scientific research and production, and the International Student Affairs Unit at the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University. He then worked as the Director of the Technology Transfer and Commercialisation Office, affiliated with the International Cooperation, Innovation Support, and Technology Commercialisation Offices at Ain Shams University. He worked as the Director of the Horticulture Research Laboratory, Pre- and Post-Harvest Treatments of Date Palm Fruits at the Al Rajhi Center for Palm, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is currently the acting director of the Center for Agricultural Studies and Consultations, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University. He worked as a consultant in international civil and commercial arbitration at the Egyptian Center for International Arbitration and is a member of the Arab International Arbitrators Union of the League of Arab States. He is also an editorial board member and reviewer in horticulture (fruit) for the Arab Journal of Science and Research Publishing, an international, indexed scientific journal. Established in Washington, D.C., USA, the publication is conducted in collaboration with the National Research Center. He has organised and participated in more than 90 local and international conferences, symposia, and scientific meetings in various disciplines of horticulture and related sciences. He has also attended and organised more than 50 international and national training courses and workshops in agriculture. He has published 35 scientific papers in his field of specialisation (and ten papers are pending publication) in international peer-reviewed journals, including 8 papers presented at international conferences. He has supervised numerous master's and doctoral theses in horticultural sciences and related disciplines. He has participated in numerous Egyptian and international research projects and is a member of 13 local and international scientific societies and unions. Professor Mahmoud Maklad collaborates scientifically with other scientists from Italy, the United States, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Algeria, and other countries.
