Biography
Prof. Dr. Mohamed Sayed Shehata Mohamed is an Egyptian scholar and expert in Agricultural Economics with a distinguished academic and professional career spanning more than three decades. He is currently a Professor Emeritus at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, where he has contributed extensively to teaching, research, and academic leadership.
Dr. Mohamed Shehata obtained his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Ain Shams University in 1993, with a thesis focusing on the economic aspects of water utilization in Egypt’s agricultural sector. He also earned his Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1988 and his Bachelor’s degree in the same field in 1978 from the same university.
Throughout his career, he has held several prominent academic positions. He served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Agricultural Economics at Ain Shams University (2014–2017) and worked as a Professor at King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia from 2008 to 2013. Earlier, he progressed through academic ranks at Ain Shams University, from Demonstrator to Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Associate Professor, and ultimately Professor.
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Mohamed Shehata has substantial experience in consultancy and applied research. He worked as an Economic Expert at the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) in Khartoum and participated in numerous national and international development projects in collaboration with organizations such as the FAO and UNDP. His work has covered agricultural policy, rural development, feasibility studies, and economic evaluation of projects.
Dr. Mohamed Shehata expertise includes agricultural marketing, production economics, project evaluation, econometrics, and agricultural policy analysis. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including micro and macroeconomic theory, agricultural economics, statistics, and operations research.
He has been actively involved in research, contributing to major projects such as agricultural sector strategy development, human development reports, and feasibility studies for large-scale agricultural and aquaculture projects. He has also participated in studies on SMEs and agricultural biotechnology economics.
Dr. Mohamed Shehata has authored approximately 100 scientific papers published in conferences and specialized journals between 1990 and 2024. In addition, he is a co-author of ten books in Arabic covering key areas such as agricultural economics, agricultural marketing, agricultural policy, and feasibility studies.
He is fluent in Arabic and English and possesses strong computer skills, including proficiency in Windows, Excel, and SPSS.
