Abstract
Fishes of fomily Spor1doe (which comprise about 22 genera in four sub-t"omilles contoining 41 species) usuolly inhobit tropicol ond temperote coostol woters. They found neor the shore in shollow inlet ond
boys, less often ot moderete depths. The smoller species, os well os the young of Jorge species, usuo11y form oggregatlons while Iorge odult ore less gregarious or solitary ond occur in deeper water.
However, there is still much to be leorned obout the general biology and fisheries of sporid fishes. The present study wos carried out on some
aspects of biology ond ecology of A?hobdosorgus sorbo; obdosorgus
lJofforo ond Oiplodlts noel which usuolly found in South Sinoi, Gulf of
Suez,Red Seo.
The present work includes fishing oreo description, fishing geors, cotch ond cotch effort, length-weight relotionship ond condition foetor, ege ond growth, food ond feeding hobit ond reproductive biology.
The fishing sites ore on the coost of Gulf of Suez, in between the western end of Ros Mohommed Morine Notionol Pork (Qod Ibn Hoddon) ond El-Tur City. They ore of the some ecotype, sheltered sondy boys which ore chorocter1zed by seogross ecosystem. Five hundred end flfty fishermen usually work through these fishing sites. They usuolly used un-motorized rowing boats ond horis in collecting the cE tch. Tremmel end gill netting beside dore ore the fishing gef.'lrs used in these flshing grounds.
Sperid fishes ore one of the most important component of the cotch of artisenal fisheries, constituting obout 23.5% of the totel cetch. The number of fishermen is the only evoilflble unites to express the fish1ng effort, 'Nhich were 3341n 1994, end gradually increesed to 550 in 1997.
