EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF HYDROXYUREA ON MENINGIOMA CELLS IN CULTURE

Abstract

Meningiomas are slowly growmg, mostly benign tumours of the leptomeninges that are in most instances amenable to cure by surgical extirpation. Owing to technical difficulties that are primarily related to the site of the tumour, complete resection is often impossible which subjects the patient to the hazards of recurrence. The benefit of radiotherapy as a sole or adjuvant therapeutic modality is questionable. Many drugs were explored in pursuit of a pharmacological treatment of meningioma. The present work was carried out with the aim of evaluating the

effects of treating cultured meningioma cells with the antineoplastic agent: hydroxyurea.
