Abstract
Summary
B
ack pain and back injuries are important causes of morbidity among nurses. It is a common symptom, affecting more than 80% of the general population in the world. It's the most frequent cause of disability in people under 45 years of age. It represents a relevant social and economic problem in developed countries, being the first reason for orthopedic consultations (Umile, et al., 2010).

This study aims to assess risk factors associated with back pain among post graduate nursing students through:
• Determining the prevalence of back pain among post graduate nursing students.
• Investigating the effects of back pain on the ability to manage everyday life.
• Identifying the relationship between back pain and other related work risk factors.
Research Questions
o What is the prevalence of back pain among post graduate nursing students?
o What are the sites of back pain affecting post graduate nursing students?
o What is the post graduate nursing students knowledge about back pain?
o What are the risk factors affecting back pain among post graduate nursing students?
o What are the effects of back pain on post graduate nursing student's ability to manage everyday life?
o Is there a relation between the post graduate nursing student’s socio –demographic characteristics and the presence of back pain?
o Is there a relation between the post graduate nursing students work characteristics and the presence of back pain?
o Is there a relation between master and doctorate nursing student's degree?
The total sample size of the study was 257 students selected purposively from two nursing faculties (Ain Shams & Cairo Universities).
First Tool: A self-administered questionnaire composed of six parts:
Part I. Socio-demographic characteristics as age, gender, monthly income, number of children, marital status.

Part V. The Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale.
Part VI. A Standardized Nordic Questionnaire include back pain prevalence, frequency, duration, causes and impact.
Second tool:
An Observation checklist Work related risk factors assessment sheet will be filled by students.
Third tool:
Data related to body mass index and physical examination of the students.
A pilot study was carried out on 10 students and was carried out to assure the reliability and validity of the tool. Some changes were done accordingly. Those who shared in the pilot study were excluded from the study sample.
The study results can be summarized as follows:
• The highest percentage of the master students were in the age group from 25-30 years 87.1%, females 76.2%, married 57.6%, number of children from 1-2 child 48.1%, monthly income more than 1000 pounds76.7% and the highest percentage of the doctorate students were in the age group from > 31-40years 78.7 %, females 100%, married 87.8%, number of children from 1-2 childern 51%, monthly income more than 1000 pounds59.6%.
• The total score of knowledge was incomplete 51.9% among master students and 83% among doctorate students.
• The mean of number of work related risk factor among master students with lower back pain 13.1%and upper back pain (12.4%)while The mean of number work related risk factor among doctorate students with lower back pain 13.4% and upper back pain 11.4%.
• The total score of disability was mild 56.2% among master students and 48.9% among doctorate students.
• Prevalence of back pain was 100% among 257 post graduate nursing students including 65.8% and 34.2% of them respectively, had lower and upper back pain
