Yahia Mohamed Abdelmawgoud Mohamed Haroon;

Abstract

From August 2015 to February 2017, we conducted our study on 30 high demand patients with recurrent anterior glenohumeral dislocation. Fifteen of them underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair procedure and 15 patients underwent Latarjet procedure. The mean duration of follow up in our series was 10 months ± 3.5 (range, 6-18 months). All patients were males and with mean age of 30.4 years ± 6.8 (range, 20-40 years). There were 28 dominant (93.3%) and two non-dominant (6.7%) shoulders. The mean duration from the first dislocation to surgery was 32 months ± 47 (range, 1.5-240 months). The mean number of preoperative dislocation episodes was 6.5 ± 5.8 (range, 2-20 times). Twenty patients were manual workers (66%), three were recreational athletes (10%) and 7 (23.3%) professional athletes. Patients with significant bone loss were excluded.
The main findings of this study was that, all patients returned to work/sport after a mean time of 6.4 months post-operatively. Patients who underwent latarjet procedure returned to work/sport faster than patients who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair by two months (p value 0.021).
