"Physical properties of PMMA/semiconductor nano composites as solar collector used in the energy controlling system in buildings"

Wafaa Mohamed Morsi;

Abstract

•The incorporation of semiconductor nanocrystals quantum dots (NQDs; usually, sizes::; Snm) into polymer allows one to integrate new functions inside polymer matrices. These novel nanocomposites may find applications in high reflective index film, light emitting diodes, photoconductive devices, and optical displays and so on.

An active area of research is the fabrication of size and shape-controlled inorganic nanocrystals (NCs) and their assembly into complex patterns. The shape and size of nanocrystals control their widely varying electrical and optical properties.

CdSe nanocrystals of different shapes (dots, rods, branched rods, and tetrapods) have been prepared via chemical method. Different concentrations (0-
16%) of dot shaped CdSe and constant concentrations (7%) of different shapes are embedded in PMMA polymer matrices in order to study their effect on the physical properties of the polymeric matrix.
