ASSESSMENT OF NURSES' S CONFLICT IN CRITICAL CARE UNITS

Abstract


Conflict is process involving two or more people, where a person perceives the opposition of the other. Conflict among nurses is becoming a significant issue resulting in job dissatisfaction, absenteeism and turnover. This study was conducted in all El-Salam Oncology Center and El-Salam Hospital to identify nature of nurse's conflict and identifying different types of nurse's conflict, assessing courses of nurse's conflict. This study included 300 participants; all members working in nursing. Data were collected by using two types of questionnaire. There was statistically significant correlation between types of conflict and causes of conflict. Intrapersonal conflict was the most frequent type of nurse's conflict at critical care unit - related to the frequency of causes. The finding showed that the opportunity for pressure was the most frequent cause of nurse's conflict. In conclusion, the nurse working in the critical care unit had higher percentage of conflict. The study recommended that hospital administration should have an active role in identifying nurse's problems and providing suitable solutions.
