ASSESSMENT OF THE MYOSTATIN AND VITAMIN D3 RECEPTOR GENE EXPRESSION IN RELATION TO MUSCLE STATE

Ghada Mohamed Gamal El- din Ishak Ismail;

Abstract

This study was done at Medical Biochemistry Department, Ain Shams University during the period from 2013-2015.
The aim of study was to evaluate both MSTN, VDR gene expression in relation to muscle state of the Egyptian subject and to determine their association to each other and to other parameters.
The study included 50 subjects; they were divided into two groups; Groups Ι, included twenty five patients with sarcopenia. Patients enrolled in this group must have low muscle mass with (low muscle strength and / or low muscle performance according to EWGSOP and Groups ΙΙ, included twenty five subjects without sarcopenia as control subjects.
All the subjects in the present study were subjected to complete history taking, general and local examination, complete radiological imaging to exclude any malignant disease that cause muscle wasting. anthropometric measurements specific for nutrition and muscle state ( height, weight , BMI , muscle mass , MAC , muscle strength , TSF , muscle performance by timed get up & go test) concerned with the study. Finally, after RNA extraction from peripheral lymphocyte obtained by Ficoll hypaque from the whole blood samples of all subjects, the MSTN and VDR gene expression were measured using semi-quantitative RT-PCR.
