Role of Matrix Degradation Enzymes in Aetiopathogenesis of Certain Bronchopulmonary Diseases
Nabil Anwar;
Abstract
MMP-9 is readily secreted by monocytes. It has been referred to as type IV collagenase, and, is capable of degrading not only basement membrane collagens, but also elastin. Thus, in presence of uninhibited MMPs the destruction of lung matrix is the sum of collagenolytic and elastolytic activities.
