Abstract

Title of Thesis: "Corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in aqueous solutions using some organic phosphorus compounds and inorganic additives"

The carbon steel is used as an essential part in the manufacturing of installations used in the petroleum industry. These installations may be subjected to corrosion in different media. A considerable amount of interest has been generated in the study of the corrosion of carbon steel in HCl solutions using organic compounds as corrosion inhibitors owing to their usefulness in several industries. These include the pickling process of metals, cleaning of boilers, and acidification of oil wells. Organic compounds containing both phosphorus and oxygen atoms are of particular interest as they give good inhibition efficiency for the corrosion of metals and alloys in aqueous solutions. Hydrochloric and sulphuric acids are often used in the pickling of steel and ferrous alloys.
