Pattern of Lower Respiratory Tract Infection Through Patients in El- Shorta Hospital Nasr city

Bassem Mohamed EL Kholy;

Abstract

Lower respiratory tract infection, while often used as a synonym for pneumonia, can also be applied to other types of infection including lung abscess and acute bronchitis. Symptoms include shortness of breath, weakness, high fever, coughing and fatigue.
Pneumonia is a serious infection and inflammation of the small air sacs of the lung (alveoli) and the tissues around them. The air sacs in the lungs fill with pus and other liquid resulting in impaired gas exchange.
Community-acquired lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) is a common cause of acute illness in adults. It remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and has significant financial implication for health care systems, and remains a major reason for admission to hospital and a common cause of death.
On the other hand, Nosocomial pneumonia remains one of the most common hospital infections and the most common infection in critically-ill patients
Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) continues to complicate the course of 8 to 28% of patients receiving mechanical. (Chastre et al, 2002).
