Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete L-Beams Subjected to Pure Torsion

AHMED AWAD MOSAD TAHA;

Abstract

This thesis has investigated the behavior of RC L-shaped specimens subjected to pure torsion, which were strengthened using CFRP. In addition, the effect of various parameters such as fiber orientation and the anchorage system technique was analyzed.

An experimental study was conducted to explore the behavior of strengthened RC L-beams, and the experimental results for all tested specimens were compared with the theoretical results obtained from ECP, ACI and CSA design codes.

The experimental program consists of one control specimen and four strengthened specimens. All five specimens have the same cross section (L-section), the same stirrups and longitudinal steel.

The first specimen (LB) was unstrengthened. The second specimen (CLB1) was strengthened using full spiral wrapping with 10cm strips of CFRP sheets. The third specimen (CLB2) was strengthened using U-jacket spiral wrapping with strips 10 cm of CFRP sheets. The fourth specimen (CLB3) was strengthened using U-jacket spiral wrapping with strips 10 cm of CFRP sheets provided with anchoring system. Finally, the last specimen (CLB4) was strengthened using U-jacket vertical wrapping with strips 10cm of CFRP sheets provided with anchoring system.
