THE STUDY OF QT DISPERSION AND PLASMA VON WILLEBRAND FACTOR AS RISK FACTORS FOR CARDIOVASCULAR (CV) DISEASES IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE (C R F) PATIENTS ON REGULAR HAEMODIALYSIS

Abstract

Our aim in this work was to study the changes in QT dispersion as well as the change in VWF as risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in patients with chronic renal failure.
The study included 40 patients with CRF on regular

haemodialysis and 20 patients with CRF on conservative treatment who were recruited from the Renal Dialysis Unit of Assiut University Hospital and out-patient cline, 20 age and sex matched healty subjects served as a control group.
Thorough history, clinical examination and ECGs were done for all individuls in addition to laboratory investigations including serum calcium ,magnesium , sodium , potassium and kidney function tests (blood urea and serum creatinine). For those on regular haemodialysis. These tests were done before and after a dialysis session. The plasma VWF Ag level was detected in all patients.
The result showed an elevation in QT dispersion in both groups of patients with chronic renal failure compared to controls.
There was significant increase in QT dispersion levels in the post-dialysis state compared to the pre-dialysis state in patients on regular haemodialysis, the increased QT dispertion is correlated positively with duration of the dialysis session, and the post dialysis serum Na+ levels.
