Effect of Vitamin C on Exercise Induced Asthma

Yasser Ahmed Refaat;

Abstract

Exercise-induced asthma is the phenomenon of transient airflow obstruction, typically 5 to 15 minutes after physical exertion. There is evidence that oxidants produced endogenously by overactive inflammatory cells may contribute to ongoing asthma. Vitamin c is the major antioxidant substance present in the airway surface liquid of the lung where it could be important in protecting against endogenous and exogenous oxidants. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of vitamin c on hyper-reactive airway of patients with exercise-induced asthma (E.I.A.). Results reveal that vitamin c has a significant role in protecting against E.I.A.
