Abstract
Inflammation is an essential protective process preserving the integrity of organisms against physical, chemical and infectious insults. Insufficient inflammation can lead to progressive tissue destruction by the harmful stimuli and compromises the survival of the organism. In contrast, the uncontrolled inflammation may lead to many diseases in the human body, such as atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and even cancer.
Acute inflammation is usually accompanied by the presence of fever and pain in the affected organ if the process is localized, or in the whole body if the process of inflammation was systemic, as in familial Mediterranean fever, which is an auto-inflammatory disease, that is characterized by repeated uncontrolled attacks of inflammation in the serosal membranes of the whole body due to genetic mutation.
Prostaglandin E2 is generated from arachidonic acid by the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase enzyme at sites of inflammation in substantial amounts and can mediate many of the pathologic features of inflammation. One
