NABIL ABD EL-MAKSOD HASSAN FRIG;

Abstract

The present investigation was carried out to clarify the effect of some pre-ginning treatments i.e. seed cotton cleaning and blending on ginning efficiency, ginning out-turn and the fiber characters.

Two different seed cotton levels, Fully Good Fair to Good (FGF/G) and Good Fair (GF) of the Egyptian cotton variety, Giza 70, was used in the present study during 2000/2001 season.

The Egyptian seed cotton cleaner, which composed of a cylinder of wooden screen (15 mm a part), inclined with about 30 degrf)es on the horizontal plane, hundly rotated and fed in a constant rate, was used for seed cotton cleaning.

The roller gin stant, McCarthy type, 40 inches roller, manifatured by Sumer Company, Turky, was used for ginning all seed cotton samples at Ety Al-Baroud gin plant, El-Nile Ginning Company, Ety Al-Baroud, Beheara Governorate.

Three different proportions, (1:1, 1:2 and 2:1), were used for blending uncleaned and cleaned seed cotton of the two studied levels. Sixteen treatments were resulted in from these combinations (4 blends x 3 proportions) besides, four controls, the first level (uncleaned and cleaned) and the second level (uncleaned and cleaned).

The experiment was carried out using the completely randomised design. Data was analyzed and the orthogonal compansons were calculated between the studied treatments.
