Clinico Therapeutic Correlation in Pediatric Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: Retrospective Study

Abstract


This retrospective study was conducted on children with GERD to find out the response of children aged from 1 month to 18 years old suffering from GERD to treatment in Ain Shams Pediatric Gastroentrology Unit, Children Hospital and find out regression of surgical treatment.
They were 68 males (56.7%) and 52 females (43.3%). Their ages at presentation ranged from 1 month and 4 years old with a Median (IQR) 0.5 (0.5 – 6.0) in months.
All files of the patients had revised for Socio-demographic data (Name, Sex, Age, , Consanguinity).
Family history Parents: consanguinity. Siblings: any similar illness. Family: any similar illness.
Medical history-taking with special emphasis on:
A - Analysis of vomiting:
 Description of vomiting (passive-active-both)
 Frequency (per day).
 Age of onset (in months)
 Amount
 Relation to meal (after or not related).
 Relation to position.
 Colour
B –Gastrointestinal symptoms:
 Dyshagia
 Irritability with feeding
 Refused oral intake
C-Extra gastrointestinal symptoms including:
 Chocking
 Cough
 Recurrent chest infection
 Abdominal examination
 Distension
 Tenderness and rigidity
 Organomegaly
