The Relation between Heart Rate Variability Parameters and Left Ventricular Systolic f'unction in Prediction of Prognosis after Acute Myocardial Infarction

Fouad Ali Ibrahim El-Alfy;

Abstract

The recent work has been conducted to study the relation between HRV and left ventricular systolic function in prediction of prognosis after acute myocardial infarction.

The study included 80 subjects, 40 healthy subjects as control group and 40 subjects presented by acute myocardial infarction. The mean age of healthy subjects was 42.9±7.9 with
25 males and 15 females. The mean age of patients with recent acute myocardial infarction was 51.4+6.3 with 30 males and 10 females.

Among the patients with recent acute myocardial infarction

23 presented with anterior myocardial infarction, 12 with inferior

MI, and 5 with anterolateral myocardial infarction.

After one week from the onset of the attack of acute Ml, the HRV parameters were significantly depressed in patients with recent acute myocardial infarction compared to normal subjects. Also systolic function was depressed in patients with poor prognosis more than in patients with good prognosis.
