Bone Alkaline Phosphatase assay using Electrophoresis, Wheat Germ Agglutination compared with Osteocalcin as a marker of Bone Formation

Hala Fayek Farid;

Abstract

The recent development of specific and sensitive markers reflecting the rate of bone turnover has improved the non-invasive assessment of bone turnover in various bone diseases. Bone alkaline phosphatase and osteocalcin are both synthesized by the osteoblasts and are currently considered the most sensitive markers to assess bone formation.
