Zakaria Ebrahim EL-Ghazl;

Abstract

Liver cirrhosis represents a great global burden in the form of human suffering, exhaustion of health resources and premature loss of productivity. Mortality due to liver cirrhosis is estimated to be 2% of all annual deaths worldwide. Egypt has the highest rate of cirrhosis related mortality with 72.7 per 100.000 deaths and nearly 18% of all deaths in male between 45-54 years old is owed to cirrhosis. High prevalence of liver cirrhosis in Egypt is linked to the highest rate of chronic HCV infection that estimated to be 14.7% of population.
