Chemical Studies on the Extraction of Uranium and Phosphoric Acid from the Crude Acid

Abstract
The main objective of the work presented in this thesis is to study the potential use of CYANEX 923 and TBP for the extraction of concentrated phosphoric acid as well as the extraction of uranium from phosphoric acid solutions. Based on the obtained experimental results, the extraction of phosphoric acid from crude wet process phosphoric acid and from a leached solution of apatite phosphate rock, were also investigated.
The thesis is classified into three chapters, namely, introduction, experimental and results and discussion.
The first chapter, “introduction”, includes some of the main uses of phosphoric acid and phosphoric acid grades, the industrial phosphoric acid produced which contains uranium, the chemistry of phosphoric acid and uranium and the main uses of phosphoric acid and uranium. It also includes a literature survey related to the present work.
The second chapter, “experimental”, contains detailed outline regarding the chemicals and reagents used and their purity and producers. Detailed description of the instrumentation and experimental techniques used are also presented in detail.
The third chapter, “results and discussion”, is divided into three main parts.
