Cerebral Microbleeds and Cognition in Patients with Symptomatic Small Vessel Disease

Kholoud Mahmoud Abdullah;

Abstract

erebral microbleeds are considered to be important neuroimaging markers of cerebral SVD. CMBs are being accused in causing cognitive impairment in different population groups through different mechanisms involving SVD pathology.
In our study, CMBs recorded a high prevalence rate of SVD patients. Subjects with CMBs were mainly males and significantly older, with higher white matter lesion volume and more lacunar infarcts. Hypertension and dyslipidemia had a great impact not only on CMBs incidence, but also on their distribution. This came to support the hypothesis of being deep CMBs (with or without lobar MB) associated with hypertensive microangiopathy.
