Study of Interleukin 6 (IL-6) in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Gehad Hamada Fekry;

Abstract

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine produced by a variety of cell types, including fibroblasts, endothelial cells, lymphocytes, and bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs).
The aim of this work is evaluation of IL 6 level in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) at time of presentation and 6 months after chemotherapy and its effect on disease prognosis. The prognostic significance of IL-6 will be correlated with other known prognostic parameters as the age, disease stage, serum LDH, β2 microglobulin and cytogenetics.
The study, approved by the Ethics Committee of the Medical University of Ain Shams, included 50 patients Mean age 56 (aged from 44 to 72 years old), (32 of them were males and 12 of them were females). The patients were recruited from different hematology units over the period from April 2016 to November 2017.
