DOSE INTENSIFICATION IN CEREBRAL GLIOMA : USE OF IMAGING IN RESPONSE EVALUATION
Dina Ragab Diab;
Abstract
The present study included 46 patients with cerebral gliomas from Grade I to Grade IV previously untreated.
The patients were treated with postoperative radiotherapy. The patients were randomized into two groups hyperfractionation and conventional groups. In the hyperfractionation group the total dose was 81.6
Gy given in 7 weeks. In the conventional group the
total dose given was 7- Gy in 7 weeks. Treatment in both gropes was given in three phases where the treatment volume was gradually reduced.
In this study, the age ranged from 18-63 years with a median of 27 years. Male to female ratio was
2.08:1.
According to TNM AJCC (1978) system 6 patients (13%) were presented with stage I, 10 patients (22%) presented with stage II, 10 patients (22%) presented with stage III, and 20 patients (43%) were in
stage IV.
