Summary:
Ignitionisafundamentalprocessforcombustors.Itssuccessorfailuredependsonflow propertiesandmixtureconcentration.Theexistenceofregimewherethe flowvelocityis lessthanthatoftheflamehasadecisiveimpactonflamestability.Ifthebulkofflowhas highvelocity, flamemightbequenchedorbe sweptbytheflow.Quenchingoccurswhen the heatreleasedwaslessthanthe heatlosttothe mixture. Eddiescreatedbythe injection patterncreatevorticesthataidedthemixingofthefuelandoxidizer helpedanchorthe flame.
