(Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection For Treatment Of Plantar Fasciitis (Systematic review and Meta analysis

Poula Rizk Saad Mina;

Abstract

The present study has shown that PRP injections are associated with improved pain and function scores when compared with steroid injections at three month’s follow up. Scores at longer-term follow-up at present demonstrate no difference; however, this comparison is limited by a low number of high quality studies. At present, information regarding relative adverse event rates and cost implications is lacking. Further, large-scale, well-designed, randomised controlled trials with blinding of outcome assessment and longer follow-up are required to determine whether PRP confers additional benefits to steroids. Studies should seek to standardise the preparation methods of PRP including the use of buffers, activation agents and centrifugation methods.
