Comparison between effect of Lactoferrin and Iron formula on blood indices

Abstract


ron deficiency (ID) is the most common micronutrient deficiency worldwide and young children are a special risk group because their rapid growth leads to high iron requirements. Risk factors associated with a higher prevalence of ID anemia (IDA) include low birth weight, high cow's-milk intake, low intake of iron-rich complementary foods, low socioeconomic status, and immigrant status.
Lactoferrin has been shown to play an effective role in the treatment of children with ID. Our study demonstrated that oral lactoferrin is effective in elevating hemoglobin and iron levels in children. As previous studies have demonstrated that oral administration of Lactoferrin is safe and effective in treating pregnant women with iron deficiency and iron efficiency anemia. We also found that it could be an effective anti-cancer treatment, and it was tested as a second treatment against Helicobacter pylori bacteria, and Patients were showed a greater recovery from injury.
The aim of the study was to compare efficacy between iron maintenance and lactoferrin supplemetation on blood indices in infants and children.
In this study, 40 children were recruited from the nutrition unit, and the Children's Hospital – Ain Shams
