Abstract


This research introduces an analytical analysis for reinforced concrete
slabs strengthened in flexure using prestressing mono steel strands and
externally bonded prestressing CFRP laminates.
This study presents analytical investigation conducted in four phases.
The first phase comprises compiling of experimental data from previous
studies available in the literature concerned with; strengthening of RC slabs
using prestressing steel strands and prestressing CFRP laminates. The
gathered specimens comprise ten continuous two span RC slabs in two
groups, the first group includes five continuous two span RC slabs; three
slabs are externally strengthened using prestressing steel strands, one slab
strengthened using prestressing unbonded CFRP laminate at the slab bottom
chord, and the remaining slab is unstrengthened control specimen. The
second group is composed of five continuous two span RC slabs; four slabs
are strengthened externally by bonded prestressing CFRP laminates and the
remaining slab is unstrengthened control specimen.
The second phase introduces the development of three-dimensional
(3D) nonlinear finite element analysis models using ATENA software to
accurately predict the flexural behavior (failure loads, load-deflection,
cracking development and propagation, and strains) of the gathered
experimental specimens.
