STUDIES ON SOME MITES ASSOCIATED WITH HONEY BEES IN EGYPT

Abstract


The study of bee mites association is truly in its early stages, while there is an increasing literature on the few pathogenic mites, especially the ectoparasitic mite Varroa jacobsoni and its control because it causing serious damage to apiaries and beekeeping industries, and its effect, in some way or another reflects on the blood cells of honeybees.
The present study studied the following subjects :
1- Survey :
During the two successive years 1999-2000, an intensive survey was carried out at different localities allover Egypt. Data proved the occurrence of . 41 mite species belonging to the suborders Mesostigmata, Prostigmata, Astigmata and Cryptostigmata associated with honeybees in Egypt.
The mesostigmatid mites are; Neocypholaelaps sp., Blattisocius dentriticus (Berlese), Blattisocius tarsalis (Berlese), Lasioseius aegypticus Afifi, Lasioseius zaheri Nasr, Proctolaelaps orienta/is Nasr, Dendrolaelaps rasmii Nasr & Mersal, Androlaelaps casalis (Berlese), Androlaelaps reticulatus Hafez, El- Badry & Nasr, Hypoaspis koseii Hafez, El-Badry & Nasr, Macrocheles a.fricanus Hafez, El-Badry & Nasr, Macrocheles glaber Muller), Parasitus consanguineus Oudemans
& Voigts, Parasitus sp. and Varroajacobsoni Oudemans.
