Musculoskeletal MRI Findings of Haematological Diseases

Pola Ibrahim Said;

Abstract

Hematologic diseases including sickle cell anemia, thalassemia and hemophilia as well as malignancies (leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma) are a group of different diseases with different etiologies that affect bone marrow.
They can involve bone and associated tissues causing significant alterations in the bone marrow and may have another side effects on the skeleton.
Magnetic resonance imaging is very beneficial noninvasive modality to evaluate bone marrow and detecting marrow lesions due to its ability to provide information at the level of cellular and chemical composition.
Knowing normal marrow components and composition and their variation throughout different ages is important for optimal interpretation of MR images that plays a central role at initial diagnosis and subsequent management of these diseases.
In this regard, the radiologist’s under¬standing of the spectrum of MRI imaging appearances of these diseases is crucial to optimal management
